“But you were always a good man of business, Jacob,” faltered Scrooge, who now began to apply this to himself.
“Business!” cried the Ghost, wringing its hands again. “Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance, and benevolence, were, all, my business. The dealings of my trade were but a drop of water in the comprehensive ocean of my business!”

Watching A Christmas Carol (George C. Scott version, of course). My populist leanings may have derived from my mother’s love for this film.

Fallingwater is reviving its winter book club and the first selection is a cookbook — this means a covered dish will be expected, right?

Home from a weekend in NYC. Why is the tree in Bryant Park so underrated?

“Research suggests that nostalgia can promote psychological health. Inducing nostalgia in a group of study volunteers resulted in overall positive feelings in this group, including higher self-esteem and an increase in the feeling of being loved and protected by others. Recent work has also shown that nostalgia counteracts effects of loneliness, by increasing perceptions of social support… Another important function of nostalgia may be in providing a link between our past and present selves—that is, nostalgia may provide us with a positive view of the past and this could help to give us a greater sense of continuity and meaning to our lives.” —More Than Just Being A Sentimental Fool: The Psychology Of Nostalgia (via somethingchanged)
